The application integation architecture facilitates application reusability and flexible business process re-engineering. It could address the need for modern businesses to continuously redefine themselves to address changing market conditions in an increasingly competitive environment. This paper is primarily focused on the research about the architecture of Enterprise Application Integration (EAI). This dissertation studies the issues on Data integration, Messaging-based and Distributed Object based integration, Workflow-based integration and Implementation on EAI. In particular, it focuses on the problem of Company-Level Reference Data Model, XML based framework, conditional, intelligent messaging and distributed object based architecture, workflow based architecture for EAI, etc. We also give an example in telecom to explain how to design and implement the Enterprise Application Integration Platform. The results show the effectiveness of those approaches proposed. The fruits of this dissertation can be used in the research and development of products on EAI. It is very helpful to guide the project on implementation of EAI. The contributions of this dissertation can be summarized as following:1) This paper analyzes a layer-based software architecture and summarizes four architecture patterns for EAI. In addition, we use a mathematical formalism for the specification of design patterns. The design patterns allow for integration of commercial off-the-shelf applications into a unified enterprise framework facilitating true application portfolio interoperability. The concepts of architecture patterns and design patterns can be used in a structured and disciplined manner to establish a generic framework.2) This paper studies the methods for designing a Reference Data Model for EAI, presents the eight Business Concept Framework in a telecom. This paper also brings out XML-based architecture for web-based Enterprise Application Integration. This paper describes the design of the framework and explains the implementation of a prototype based on the framework.3) In this paper, it presents the notion of conditional, intelligent messaging and introduces the concept of a global transaction context for distributed...
