With the rapid development of science and technologies today, thecommunication technology is now widely used in military and civil fields.Carrier synchronization technology takes a very important part incommunication systems. When in different environments or situations,different modulation types should often be selected, which need differentcarrier synchronization methods. Thus the communication equipments shouldbe replaced, which costs much money and time, preventing the rapiddevelopment of communication. As a result, the study on the universal carriersynchronization system, which supports different modulation types andfrequencies, is becoming a research hotspot in the communication field.This thesis implements a design of a hardware platform based on SDR,including an FPGA core board, a high-speed A/D-D/A board and anSRAM/FLASH board. The hardware platform can not only meet the requirements of the carrier synchronization system, but also can provide aplatform for designs and researches related to SDR.Detailed FPGA design of the universal carrier synchronization system isgiven in this thesis, using VHDL and modular design method. One side theFPGA design can communicate with the MCU and hold the internal control inthe FPGA, configuring the parameters for different carrier synchronizationrequirements. On the other side, it can do the digital processing on themodulated digital signals converted by the A/D converter according to theparameters, realizing the carrier synchronization, and then export the carriersthrough D/A converters. Different levels of simulations and tests are adoptedon the design. The results indicate that the system can work stably and meetthe design requirements, implementing the carrier synchronization of IFmodulated signal in different modulation types and different frequencies withthe parameter configurations of the MCU.
