| With its high safety, efficiency, mainframe is widely used in banking, insurance, transportation and some other important areas, however as a system existed for years, should meet the following difficulties mainly:First of all, in the scenario of rapid development in computer technology, the usability, availability even functionality have undergone a thorough innovation, but many of these new technologies, new methodologies in the mainframe area would not play the role with its advantages; Secondly, the mainframe application may contain huge amount of business rules which are closely coupled with the system implementation, making the system hard to maintain, difficult to shorten the life cycle for updating. All of above reasons will bring this system into a terrible situation that cannot adapt to rapidly changing business environment; the third, the original mainframe applications have already shown some limitations in technical, functional, and not well positioned to meet business needs. Nevertheless developing a new application completely, out of mainframe must establish some unpredictable risks. In consequence of above analysis, how to separate business rules from traditional mainframe to construct an application which not only take the advantage of mainframe-edge, but also combine with modern management system and management approach, is the challenge that the majority of mainframe users must face to.Grounding on the analysis of the advantages and the limitations of mainframe applications, and the principle of BRMS (Business Rules Management System) to achieve "layered" that separates management business rules from system implementation, this thesis mainly discuss possible solution on how to applying BRMS on existing mainframe applications. By taking a typical loan approval system as an example, based on IBM WebSphere ILOG JRules and the characteristic of well-structured and paragraph-like COBOL language itself, this thesis analyzes the model of business rules management, then trying to establish a standardized business management method to solve the problem may arise during the mainframe modernization process, aim to providing a possible development direction of mainframe in a more practical way. |
