The LED display screen has advantages of long service life, low power consumption, high brightness, large viewing angle, visible distance etc. And it has become a new generation of information transmission media tool. Widely used in securities trading, financial, station, stadiums, road traffic, airport flight, scheduling command center, shopping mall, advertising media, postal service, performances, exhibitions and all kinds of other public places. LED display screen compared with LCD, the most outstanding characteristic is low cost, high brightness and resizable screen size according to the need using standard LED unit board to make up. With the development of science and technology, LED material technologies and craft also rising, LED display with its outstanding advantages to become one of the mainstream information product[1].This thesis mainly discussed based on embedded LED display system design and the display effect of the algorithm that research.In the LED display system design, Control Card is the core of the overall system design. Traditional LED display is based on high-performance8/16bit SCM, using the8051kernel. It is not suitable for large-screen design, because its highest frequency is low, data storage and processing is made by expanding the external flash; when using ARM or FPGA as a microprocessor, it overcomes the shortcomings of the SCM, but the cost is significantly raised. Based on this and analysis of previous studies, this subject, using the ARM Cortex-M3core-based STM32chip as the microprocessor of the LED display, not only overcomes the deficiencies of the microcontroller and the high cost of ARM/FPGA chips, but also meets the performance requirements of the LED display.This thesis comprises several sections as follows:1. An in-depth analysis of how the LED display works and the overall architecture, giving the LED display design plan based on STM32, it completes the system schematic and PCB board design, make and debugging of the circuit board etc.2. Organized by the two-color LED display data, it obtains correspondence between the data and store address. And data organization principle also applies to the large LED screen, for LED large screen is made up with LED display unit boards.3. Through the above analysis of the data organization of the LED display screen, a universal algorithm was got to provide the reference staff for the people who will study the LED display screen more in-depth or want to study it.4. Through the analysis of the LED display ASCII and Chinese characters display principle, an algorithm is designed to output all the characters of ASCII code and the Chinese Font Library, and store them as an array. It contributes to modification procedure and provides reference for the LED displaying characters.Because it uses high-performance, low-cost, low power consumption of the STM32as a microprocessor, LED display system has a very good prospect. After the installation testing, all the indicators of the system meet the design requirements; the entire design has been used in the Emei Branch of Southwest Jiaotong University Campus.
