As a typical high-technology industry,the large screen projection display,which merges micro-electronics,liquid crystal,optics and mechanism into a whole,has grown rapidly over the past few years. Firstly,the background of the projection is introduced,and the conclusion can be drawn that projection is the best way to realize large screen display.In the second chapter,the principle and the application of projection display technologies are expatiated. Projection display includes three distinct technologies:CRT,DLP and LCD.In chapter three,the technology and product trends in the projection display are analyzed,and different technologies are used in different application segments. Light output is one of the most important parameters and being traded off for improved resolution,contrast ratio,weight,color,uniformity,cost and other desirable features. As a new technology and new mode in the next generation rear projection TV and HDTV,reflective LCD is the best way to realize bright light output and high contrast ratio image.In the forth chapter,the physical characteristics and electronic-optics behavior are studied,as well as the working principle and properties of LCDs. Following the continuum theory,the detail formulas for calculating the director alignment of perpendicular alignment and twist nematic LCDs are given. Further more the calculation steps used in programming are also provided. This program also guides us through exploring new display mode.In the fifth chapter,both the theoretical and experimental work on vertically aligned liquid crystal is studied. We first use the program to analyze various factors which influence LCD' s behavior and find out the best configuration in theory that gives the most satisfactory display quality. Experiments are focused on the alignment craftwork. A great amount of work is done on this aspect and stable vertical alignment is achieved.At last,the color separation and synthesis system with Philips Prism is discussed. Such a Philips system combines color separation and synthesis and is used forreflective LCD display mode. A reflective LCD large screen display system with electronic-addressed mode is constructed.
