Editorials and opinions are very important in the development of media. REN Zhongping is brief for important editorials of People’s Daily. By resorting to content and text analysis, the author analyzes the editorials by Ren Zhongping in People’s Daily from1993to2011, almost two decades, in order to illustrate the characteristics of content, specific linguistic style, reasoning methods, discourse structure and wording pattern. The study also analyses their reasoning and narrative strategies, as well as national memory and image built by the editorials from the perspective of framing theory. It is found that authors of editorials by Ren Zhongping examine the Chinese people’s life in recent20years in a more literary, market-oriented, professional and open way, which reflects multiple relations between media and national development, political construction and public interaction; which also demonstrates subjective efforts of news organizations and staff in the dice playing of society, history and culture.
