In recent years, Chinese e-commerce market has entered a period of rapid development, and it’s getting an increasingly prominent position in commodity markets of society. However, domestic enterprises developing e-commerce are facing many Chinese-style challenges. In addition to continuously improve the organization, personnel, management and process; these enterprises also need to have a powerful information system to help to get unified management among different channels to enhance business efficiency. Enterprises attach great importance to Virtual Inventory Management as an important part of information system for its ability to share inventory among multiple channels, avoid oversold through rational allocation, and improve inventory turns. This paper uses Brilliant Multi-channel Web Store Management System "Bai Dian Tong" as project background to describe its core subsystem Virtual Inventory Management System. This subsystem based on WebSphere Commerce has five modules as Inventory Distribution Engine (intron module Channel Task Engine), Admin Notify Engine, Mediator, DataLoad and CMC UI. Through well-defined multi-level control model and distribution strategy, this subsystem can complete efficient inventory management in complex business processes and enhance enterprises’ hole market competitiveness.Firstly, this paper analyzes subsystem’s positioning in the project, then use scene simulation to establish a complete business model and define the functional requirements of subsystem. Detailed designs of the subsystem are given around the multi-level control model of inventory management, including architecture design, key module design and database design. On this basis, this paper discusses implementation of the subsystem in the sequence as:an overview of the relationship between system modules, methods to generate project, Web Service, Channel Task, finally the management of user permissions. The Virtual Inventory Management System has been integrated in "Bai Dian Tong", delivered for use and achieved good results.
