In the information age, Internet is one of the major ways for people to access information,the data should generate a format to make people easy to understand and use.But computercan not understand and deal with the data.Therefore, it is necessary to give people a chanceto release them from the complicated information processing work. Based on this, thesemantic web is proposed to enable the Web data with semantic and easy to be understood bythe machine. The Semantic Web is the upgrade version and expansion of the current WorldWide Web. In this way, ontology has been introduced to present the data in Semantic Web.The ontology, which is considered as a kind of terminology used to describe and expressthe domain knowledge on the semantic web, is a formal and explicit specification for theshared conceptualization. With the information always change dramatically, the ontologywhich is considered as the key element to express information should have its own update andrevision. And this kind of adaptive process for updating is called ontology evolution. How tomaintain the consistency of the ontology is a very important part in the ontology evolution.The inconsistency of ontology will lead to error or conflict results. For the reason, ontologyconsistency checking for the continually modified ontology is very important in the evolutionprocess. Now, the ontology consistency checking method mostly bases on the static ontology,while the ontology is in a dynamic development process of the evolution process. This paperresearches on the ontology consistency checking method based on the evolution process.The content of this study is the discussion of the single ontology of incremental semanticchange instead of the composite ontology. Firstly, the paper introduces the basic concepts andfeatures of ontology and evolution. Ontology Consistency checking methods is alsointroduced in a static environment. The six stages of ontology evolution is analyzed and adetailed description of how to check the consistency in the process of ontology evolution. Andalso Point out the defects of Original methods in the evolution ontology consistency checking.In this paper, we focus on the use of modularity to support the ontology consistency checking.The ability to extract meaningful fragments from the original ontology is essential. We propose a definition of a module that guarantees completely capture the meaning of a givenset of terms that extracted from added axioms, to include all axioms relevant to the meaningof these terms, We show that the problem of determining whether a subset of an ontology is amodule for a given vocabulary. And because the process is based on the semantics, theconsistency checking is more complete. We established the ontology evolution framework onthe basis of the new method according to dynamic characteristics of ontology evolution,describing the process of evolution ontology Consistency checking. Finally, we summarizethe paper work and discuss the outlook for the consistency checking in the ontology evolutionprocess.
