Such great changes have taken in information age that ways of living,study and thinking have been considerably affected. Development, as well asinnovation, has been the distinguishing feature of the era, so the futuredevelopment of education definitely follows the trend. Recent years havewitnessed a growing focus on PBL in educational community. The PBL iswidely applied to teaching because of its unique theory that learner is priorityand the study of problem is at its core, which is a beneficial attempt in meetingthe needs of times and education.The paper discusses PBL in terms of theory and practice. Based on VisualBasic Programming course, the paper studies the main theory of PBL and bringsforward the instructional design of Visual Basic Programming course fornon-computer majors. In addition, the teaching experiment of PBL is carried outamong sophomores in digital multimedia major in school of educationaltechnology in Shen Yang Normal University, which provides more convincingcases for the paper.The paper consists of six chapters. The first chapter illustrates thebackground and analyzes the status quo of the development in programmingcourses in China and of the PBL at home and abroad. Furthermore, the writerput forward the purpose, significance, contents and approaches of the study.The second chapter makes clear illustrations on the definition, elementsand characteristic of PBL and expounds on its theoretic basis. Besides, its basicprocess and the advantage in Visual Basic Programming course are alsomentioned.The next chapter gives not only specific analysis to the teaching design ofPBL in Visual Basic Programming course in terms of teaching aiming,characteristic of learners, contents, environment, strategy and evaluation butmacroscopic design and detailed exploration to PBL. The forth chapter brings forward the implementation plan for PBL inVisual Basic Programming course, which is supported by a specific case.Thefollowing chapter analyses and concludes the effects of PBL. The last chaptersummarizes the views, points out the deficiencies and brings out the issues thatneed studying further.With the study and the analysis of data, the paper comes to the conclusion thatPBL stimulates study interests and cultivate many abilities. PBL is feasible in VisualBasic Programming course. It follows the trend of the national reform in education,cultivate s students’ sense of innovation and problem solving, and is significant inimproving teaching quality. It also provides teachers with a unique approach.
