As the evolution of the 3rd Generation Telecommunication (3G), LTE (Long Term Evolution) uses the state-of-art technologies such as OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing Access) and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) etc. With the introducing of flattening system architecture, more advantages, for instance higher spectrum efficiency and smaller transmission delay etc., have been brought into LTE system, which makes the coverage of wireless network in TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution) showing different characteristics compared with GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) in 2G and TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronization Code Division Multiple Access) in 3G.Moreover, as an evolution from 3G, TD-LTE inherits the Time Division Duplex from TD-SCDMA, which is a technology uses the same carrier frequency at both uplink and downlink, and is more efficiency than FDD system due to the deficiency of the frequency resource nowadays. The research of TD-LTE becomes more and more important along with the widely business application of TD-SCDMA. Statistics shows that more than 70% investments of mobile network construction were used for radio access network. With a more logical planning and design of the network can guarantee the wireless network be constructed with more efficiency and less costs for later network optimization and avoid unnecessary expends. As mentioned above, the research of the covering characteristics of wireless network becomes a hot topic nowadays.The main research areas of wireless network cover-characteristics include station site planning, frequency planning, business capacity estimated etc. The main factors which affecting the TD-LTE coverage include flexible frequency-domain resource allocation, multiple modulation coding method, different antenna type and MIMO mode, complex network system load and various frame structure configuration. As a result of the flexibility of these above-mentioned factors, the coverage performance of TD-LTE system shows a certain complexity.This paper mainly carried out the fololwing tasks:1. Provide a definition for system coverage and relevant indications of TD-LTE system.2. Introduce TD-LTE system and link simulation platform architecture and design flow.3. Used both theoretic analysis and simulation to calculate the control channel and business channel coverage using link budget. The relationship between main system coverage-affecting factors has been analyzed, derived and calculated.4. Proposed a method for system capacity budget, improvements and expansion as well as suggestions for coverage performance, wireless network construction and planning in TD-LTE system.
