The system of cdma2000 lx EV-DO (short for EV-DO), which is one of the families of the third generation mobile communication system, has been used widely over the world with the development of mobile business. In network planning, the distribution of base stations has important relationship with coverage and capacity of base stations. When 3G is about to enter the commercial stage in China, it is actually significant to research on coverage and capacity problems of the EV-DO system.EV-DO is a technique particularly for data service, and both forward link and reverse link have many Data transmission rates. In this thesis the flow of coverage estimation is discussed and factors which influence link budget are analyzed. Combined with propagation model, coverage radius of base station in EV-DO system under different wireless conditions is analyzed, a grade distributing model of the forward link rate is simulated.EV-DO is a interference system and the techniques of CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) are used in reverse link. When many users connect at the same time, system can not work since multipath interference exceeds a limit. In this thesis, factors which influence reverse capacity are studied, and the formula of limited reverse capacity is derived by theoretical analysis, then simulation on the effect of these factors to reverse capacity is made on the platform of Matlab.Time division multiple access is used in forward link of EV-DO system in order to support higher data rate. In real environment, forward throughput can not receive peak rate because many factors affect throughput. The principle of the existing scheduling algorithm is discussed and the factors which influence throughput and fairness are studied. Based on the research of PF (Proportional Fairness) schedule, an improved schedule algorithm is introduced. Compared with PF schedule algorithm, simulation on Matlab platform shows the improved schedule algorithm increases forward throughput and fairness is guaranteed.
