Cloud-computing is an innovative internet-based way of computing, with a core spirit to more efficiently share resources and capabilities across the whole network, in order to achieve the goal of highly cost-effective computing. As an essential part of any’Infrastructure as a Service’cloud computing system, the virtual network subsystem mainly address the problem of the interconnecting of virtual machine instances. Contrary to a physical network which more than often contains highly strict and complex topographies, the network formed by virtual machines is a virtualized environment which often tends to be easier to understand and configure due to the virtualization process. This article presents the design and implantation of a virtual network system which provides the most commonly demanded features of virtual network subsystem that is used in IaaS cloud computing platforms: interconnection of VM instances, access control rules, elastic IP assigning and network isolation. The article also conducted validation on the system’s correctness and evaluation on the system’s performance, which proved that the system has achieved its design goals with good performance characteristic.
