With the great competition and changing market environment, manufacturing Enterprise must adapt themselves for survive. Computer techniques, especially the Network techniques provide new power to Virtual Enterprise. Under the environment of network, Virtual Enterprise can share the resources and make them optimized to adapt the changing market. The lifecycle of Virtual Enterprise can be decomposed as four phases: marketing opportunity recognizing; enterprise forming; enterprise operation; enterprise disassembly. This paper divide the phase of enterprise forming into two steps: partner search and partner choose. Based on analyzing characters and foundations of virtual enterprise, this paper make a research to the problem of virtual enterprise partner search through analyze the search model and using semantic web techniques. The following are the main contents and contributions from this research.(1)Divide the phase of enterprise forming into two steps: partner search and partner choose, and make a main research to partner search. This paper makes a mathematic way to describe the ability of manufacture enterprise and the characters of manufacture tasks, and discuss the flow of the matching between them. In addition, this paper analyses the connection between the manufacture task and the number of manufacture enterprises, and gives an algorithm to optimize the number of enterprises under user’s requirement.(2)Use the way of services oriental architecture (SOA) which from software engineering to analyze the architecture of enterprise, and the ability of an enterprise was considered as a set of services ability. In this point, the partner searching use the way of matching characters between enterprise ability and manufacture mask can be recognized as services discovery and match.(3)In order to resolve the presented problems such as manufacturing capability modeling and manufacturing task modeling in some manufacturing information websites and e-business websites, a ontology method to describe the manufacture task and manufacturing services is proposed based on the constructed model for the enterprise ability and task characters. This paper construct a extend ontology for the manufacture enterprises: network manufacture service ontology, and use real case to research the way of describing manufacture task and services.(4)For searching manufacturing services efficiently and matching them to the collaborative manufacture task, this paper give analysis to the problem and proposed the request of service discovering and matching. This paper also make a research to the searching engine which uses a combined algorithm based on semantic similarity calculating and semantic rule matching.(5)The prototype system for virtual enterprise partner search is developed according to the theory proposed in this paper, and also collects large number of data from the internet to validate the mechanism. The result shows that the mechanism for the virtual enterprise partner search is feasible.
