Pipeline leak detection has an important significance in the protection of pipeline transportation security, public safety and protection of the environment. In the domestic, the common method of pipeline leak detection is used for a large amount of leakage detection or early warning for leakage, barely for detecting small leakage. This paper presents a study of tiny leakage detection using the pipeline inner spherical detector. The detection method is conducive to improving the security of detection, saving the cost of detection and developing tiny leakage detection methods.Data acquisition platform with good stability and scalability is the core of the pipeline inner spherical detector. In the full analysis of the requirements for the data acquisition system, and characteristics of a variety of microprocessors, a design of the data acquisition platform is proposed in this paper, which is an embedded system based on ARM9. The embedded data acquisition platform is divided into several modules according to function on the hardware, such as processor module, sensor module, interface module and power management module, and each module is designed individually. In the software aspect, Linux-2.6 kernel operating system is cut and grafted to ARM, the driver of the sensors and other external instrumentation is completed, and the application procedure is developed using the multi-threaded programming method, to gather and store multi-sensor data concurrently, as well as transfer data via USB and so on. As a result of hardware modular design and software design with a multi-threaded, the platform is stable and reliable, and easy to change or add modules.Several experiments are carried on using the sphere detector equipped with the data collection platform in the water pipeline, which has simulated leak. The results show that the design is appropriate, and the platform acquires data stably and efficiently, detection program is safe, practical and simple to operate. The study provides effective technical support for the high-precision, low-cost detection of tiny leakage in the practical oil pipeline.
