The current environment situation and its change of the Three Gorges ReservoirArea regains attention of the relevant department,with the smooth development of theThree Gorges Project and the acceleration of urbanization of the reservoir area. Anadvanced technology, which provides environment parameters effectively, and thereforerealizes environment monitoring of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, is a significanttechnical support for ecological health and sustainable development of the Three GorgesReservoir Area. However, the present monitoring equipment、monitoring methods andmonitoring ability can not meet the increasing need of environment monitoring in thereservation area. Therefore, it is urgent to improve the ability of environmentmonitoring.By making use of the characteristics of wireless sensor network such as its widedistribution, low cost, high fault tolerance, long-distance and real-time monitoringability, and taking the special background of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area intoconsideration, the large-scale wireless sensor network which is suitable for theenvironment monitoring of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area was constructed. Finally,fusing the network by the use of wireless sensor network technology, GPRS technologyand internet technology, the intellectualization and networking of the environmentmonitoring for the Three Gorges Reservoir Area is achieved. The specific work of thispaper embodies the following aspects:①Combining with the structure of wireless sensor network, a specific analysis ofthe key technology is made, which is about the characteristics of the wireless sensornetwork technology, wireless sensor network communication protocol and its designrequirement. Moreover, a research of the scale features in the wireless sensor network ismade, with the special background of the Three Gorges Reservoir Area taken intoconsideration, and the current popular various clustering routing protocols wereemphatically analyzed. Then optimizing the wireless sensor network clustering routingprotocol was optimized, in order to achieve the purpose of prolonging the network lifecycle.②In order to prolong the network life cycle, the current popular various clusteringrouting algorithms just focus on the research of cluster into consideration, while ignorethe network operation status when the cluster heads fail to work. This study puts forward a management strategy for the cluster head nodes based on the model ofsoftware regeneration. An analysis of the mode is given, and the simulation experimentis made.③As the above research work is finished, an experimental model which is based onwireless sensor network and used for the environment monitoring of the Three GorgesReservoir Area is constructed. The mode mainly includes monitoring framework design,monitoring hardware platform design, monitoring software platform design andmonitoring terminal design. The experimental model proved the feasibility on realizingthe intellectualization and networking of the environment monitoring for the ThreeGorges Reservoir Area.Finally, there are summaries of the study and the prospect of further research work.
