Recently, with advancement in sensor technology, microelectronicstechnology, computer technology and wireless communication technology,wireless sensor networks (WSN) evolved very fast and attracted a lot ofresearch interests as it has many potential applications ranging from smartagriculture, healthcare, home automation and military applicaitons. and now,every country of the world have to face the challenge from how to improve themarket competitiveness of agriculture production and how to realizingagricultural sustainable development, and the smart agriculture attracts manyinterests from a lot of countries. To improve the scientific management level inthe process of agriculture production, it does reasearch on how to takeadvantage of WSN to realize the smart agriculture, which has major theoreticvalue and wide application for realizing rich harvest of agriculture productionand improve the market competitiveness of agriculture production.Base on the sufficient analysis of the current state of wireless sensornetwork research in precision agriculture, it does research on how to takeadvange of WSN technology to sense the prarameters in the sense field,transmit sensor data to remote data center, process and present the crop growthinformaiton in the data center, according to the requirement of the crop growthmonitoring system project from Science and technology demonstration gardenin JianSanJiang HongWei farm.Firstly, it does requriement analysis according to the functionalrequirement and technical specificaions of the project, and propose the designoverall scheme of the mornitoring system. Based on this, it presents the overallscheme of hardware desigh and software design. In the hardware sheme designpart, it first does a survey of the architecture of wireless sensor nodedesign,then compare, discuss and analysis of different architectures, andfinally determine the right one of the wireless sensor node in the system,which is the combination of microcontroller and radio tranceiver. It also doessurvey and compare of different microcontrollers and radio tranceiversadopted in current wireless sensor nodes, and determines the suitable micriocontroller and radio tranceiver with high performance and low powerconsumption. In the software sheme design part, which corresponds to thehardware scheme design, it determines the ZigBee protocol stacke,development environment, development language and low-power consumptiondesign.Secondly, based on the requirement analysis and scheme design, it doeshardware detail design and software detail design. During hardware detaildesign, it analyzes the principle of each module specific hardware designsheme, and hardware selection, shcematic design of sensor modules,microcontroller module, wireless radio tranceiver module and power module.During the software design, it disigns the software of the coordinator, routerand end device in the wireless sensor network, it also considers andimplementation the lower-power design of wireless sensor nodes.Finally, after designing hardware and software of the system, it tests andanalyzes of the crop growth mornitoring system. the test part can be dividedinto two parts: wireless sensor node test and system test. during the node test,it evaluates the sensor interface, communication performance, low-powercharacteristic of the wireless sensor node. During the system test, it evaluatesthe mornitoring function. and test results show that the crop growthmornitoring system has characteristics of working stable, high performanceand low-power, it can be equipped with different types of sensors and can beapplied in many other application fields.
