At present, there are various types of video conference system terminal products inthe market, due to their bulkiness and requirement of exclusive special network, andtheir high cost that small and medium enterprises cannot afford. Therefore, portablevideo conference systems products for users in small and medium enterprises are quitecompetitive. In order to cater to the needs of users in SMEs who are often on the moveto acquire and exchange information anytime and anywhere, on the basis of fullconsideration of the strong performance and rich peripherals of DM642, this paperpresents a scheme of design and implementation of a mobile video conference terminalbased on DM642. The terminal realizes the possibility of participating the videoconferences anytime and anywhere by connecting with the PC via USB interface, andusing relevant video conference client software.This paper firstly introduces the concept, development history and trend of videoconference systems, secondly makes a comparison of the merits and demerits of theexisting video conference systems, and then designs and implements a hardware part ofvideo conference terminal, including the detailed scheme and process of the hardwaredesign, such as the requirements analysis of the hardware system, the selection of themain chip, the overall structural design of the hardware, the circuit design anddebugging of each functional module. In addition, the thesis also accomplishes thedesign of conference terminal software, mainly including the building of developmentenvironment of DSP/BIOS, the design of structure process of terminal main program,and the writing of driving programs of some chip etc.At present, the design of hardware platform for video conference terminal,debugging of hardware and testing of the whole system has been accomplished. Thetests results show that the replacement of PC with conferencing terminal as a videocodec platform, reduces the workload of the computer’s CPU, and it is able to transmithigh-definition video signals between LAN and public IP network, achieve D1effect,and has a shorter transmission delay, which could basically achieve the performancerequirements of terminals.Compared with the hardware products of video conference terminals in the market,the DM642processor used in this conference terminal hardware could be applied tovarious kinds of highly complicated video signal processing algorithm, offering ahigh-performance and stable hardware platform to transmit high-definition video signal.It is characterized by portability, stable operation, relatively full functions, rapid speed of statistics processing, usability of products, and availability of being operated both inexclusive network and in public IP network for individuals. Therefore, the videoconference terminal has a prospect market of application.
