With the development of Internet, Video encode/decode, and RTOS, there must be a trend to transfer analog image signal into digital image signal, and transmit the digital video over Internet. In security surveillance, before we get the 100% digitized video surveillance system, there are several solutions which are partly digital. However, it can't stop the security surveillance system becoming fully digitized. That's a solution make the analog video signal transform into digital video signal, and transmit digital video over Internet in the front of the system. That's a solution use IP camera, distributed storage system, and modularized construction to achieve the video surveillance task.Choosing a DSP chip for an application, you should have a think whether the computer power of DSP can satisfy the system, and whether the on-chip peripherals are suited for the upgrade and extend of the system. TMS320DM642 is a high performance media processor provided by Texas Instrument Incorporated. When working at a clock rate of 720MHz, DM642 can execute 5760 million instructions per second. In addition, there are lots of peripherals which can be glueless interface to external devices. Egg, there are three video ports and one emac port on DM642. As a conclusion, DM642 is suitable for network Digital Video system.The main task of this paper is to develop and design a network digital video surveillance platform based on DM642, including hardware and software environment. For hardware, from the key chips selection to hardware schematic diagram design of each module will be introduced in this paper, and also the final testing of each module. For software, the hardware driver design, the system software framework design based on the DSP/BIOS (a Mini RTOS of TI), the integration of XDAIS algorithm, and the final testing will be introduced in this paper step by step.At last, a stable network digital video surveillance platform is realized through this paper. There are abundant peripherals which can be used to upgrade and extend the system functions on the platform. And the platform can support two analog video inputs to finish two background stage video surveillance tasks through Internet at this time. The system software framework is reasonable and strongly, and various XDAIS standard video algorithms can be easily integrated to the system software. Object target identification and intelligent alarm function are added to the system by integrating the OV lib of Object Video Corporation into the system software. Manner to alarm of the system is various, and the system can be widely applied to security surveillance areas such as banks, transportation and airport.
