Diode pumped solid-state lasers with small size、high efficiency、simplestructure、long life etc. have widely used in industry, national defense, scientific research etc. In this thesis, study on diode pumped rod laser, for narrow pulse、high repetition rate、high average power provide amplifier module.For the LD side-pumped rod laser, the technology status of end-pumpedand side-pumped rod laser is summarized; their technical advantages and limitations are analyzed. Comparing the advantages and disadvantages of different laser materials, the Nd:YAG crystal is selected.For optimizing the side-pumped structure, this thesis introduces an innovative side-pumped structure. Structural design of the innovative side-pumped component and theoretical analysis of laser. First the geometric structure of theinnovative side-pumped structure is designed. Considering the uniformity of pump laser、the material refractive index and the coolant pressure, get the geometric distribution of pump laser in rod by ZEMAX simulation. And then obtain parameters of the innovative side-pumped structure. Secondly theoretical analysis the temperature distribution、thermal stress、photoelastic effects and stress birefringence in rod by reference the previous theories. Last, simulate theuniform distribution of pump laser in rod, evaluating specifications are putforward. Analysis the influencing factors of the uniform distribution by theoretical simulation, and obtain optimal range of parameters.Mechanical structure design and experimental study of laser. Design mechanical structure of laser and the laser resonator. Measure the distribution of fluorescence、the out put power、the laser beam quality. A CW963W output power and36%optical-to-optical efficiency are obtained. The validity of the innovative side-pumped structure is verified. Analysis influencing factors of thelaser properties. Proposed laser improvement program.
