High-Power solid-state lasers are of major interest for applications in materials processing and science research because of some advantages, such as high power scaling, high peak power, compact devices and the wavelength in the IR delivery through an optical fiber which is one of the major advantages of solid lasers. In order to improve the working characteristics of lasers, The gain distribution in the Nd:YAG rod was theoretically studied using ray tracing program. Without the help of collimating lens, a high efficiency diode-side-pumped module was designed. The paper includes the following aspects:(1) In the part of introduction, the advantages of solid-sate are presented and the state of the development and research on the high power solid-state lasers and thermal effects in active medium are mentioned. Then the main content and purpose of this dissertation is given.(2) The structure of semi-conductor is analyzed; also the connection of output wavelength and material composition and temperature stability, then an equal structure and material composition fit to DPSSL was given.(3) Numerical stimulation on diode-side-pumped is carried out to analyze the gain distribution in the Nd:YAG rod. The output characteristics in different water temperature, and resonator length are given.(4) We make conclusion on the whole study and prospect the following research on this study. In this dissertation, a good thought to resolve thermal effects of solid-state laser is proposed, and a new idea to design a high-power solid-state laser with good beam quality is given(5) The output characteristic of diode-side-pumped high power YAG laser are studied,the maximum output power is 218W. The maximum optical-optical efficiency is 37% and the electrical-optical efficiency is about 18.5%.
