As one of the major theoretical schools of literature critique, narrative studies hasrecently probed into the field of journalism and chosen news narrative text as its mainsubject, focusing on narrative perspective, framework, time, and structure.Nevertheless, existing studies of new narratives, including both monographs andthesises, have not paid enough attention to the discrepancies among different ways ofnews report or simply different media. As a comparison, narrative studies in literaturehas been really refined and professionalized to an extent in which a specific conceptin narrative studies is used to analyse in detail a specific literature piece by a specificwriter.Though sharing many common features, news reports vary greatly amongdifferent media with different ideological properties. The psyche, position, andideology of its author reflect specifically on the narrative perspective of a narrativepiece, through which a meaningful and tendentious "text world" is provided to itsreaders.Holding "Here we read through China" as its tenet, the Southern Weekends is anews weekly with great influence and credibility in China. It’s news reports on peopletend to have a strong ideological property with the purpose to "reflects on certainrealities of the transforming society through the selection of people subject". With thispaper, I analyse people reports by the Southern Weekends as my subjects and use"narrative perspective" as my analytical framework. My goals is to reconstruct theconstruction of news narrative text by media ideology through the analysis ofnarrators, narrative positions, narrative motives, narrative angels, and focuses&blindspots.
