Since the late1990s, a reform of charging money for higher education has been carried out in full operation in China. With the breaking of planned economic system, the government is no long the only investor of higher education. Citizens have to pay for higher education, which leads to a great change of family consumption structure. With the deficiency of high education resources and the economic pressure, charging students for high education has some long-term benefits. Besides, it can help people to form a rational demand of high education. However, at present, our people have some irrational and inappropriate needs for higher education, such as the blind pursuit of higher education degrees and a cult of certain hot fields of study.Based on the background mention above and the practical and theoretical research results about the family needs of high education of scholars home and abroad, this thesis is a study of higher education need in Chinese families, taking Shenzhen BH Middle School as an example, appling questionnaires and interviews to gather relevant datas and statistics, and using software to analyze the students’higher education needs in Shenzhen.Through investigation and analysis, this thesis finds Shenzhen students’needs of higher education have the following characteristics:1. the coexistence of an intense demand of high education and the phenomena of quiting university entrance examination.2. the obvious utilitarianism of high education pursuit.3. the high demand of cross-regional high education.4. the irrational tendency in high education demand.Following the above analysis, the thesis concludes the characters of Shenzhen students’higher education needs:1. the eagerness to go to college and the phenomenon of giving up examination coexist;2. the utility orientation is obvious in higher education pursuit;3. a strong wish to go to distant areas for higher education;4. irrationality of higher education needs.This thesis takes Shenzhen BH Middle School as an example and analyzes the influencing factors of Shenzhen students’ needs of higher education:irrational factors such as psychological comparison with others and conformity to popular choice; rational factors such as personal ability and pursuit; objective factors such as parents’working and educational background and family income; social factors such as education fee, interest return, social tradition, social and economic development and population, etc.Based on the analysis above and questionaire research, focused on the present situation, characteristics and influenceing factors of senior high school students’demand of high education, the thesis suggests the following solutions to improve their demand of high education:1. to establish an reasonable and proper aim for the development of high education according to our economy needs;2.to enrich high education resources and to enhance high education quality;3. to set appropriate standard of higher education fee with due consideration of family economic pressure;4.to enhance the university graduates’employment rate and quality;5.to perfect the loaning system for university students to promote the fairness of education;6.to establish more and better second and higher vocational or technological education;7. to cultivate positive and reasonable family consumption idea;8. to cultivate students’proper idea of higher education demand.
