STS education is an urgent requirement for science education in contemporary society,and is also the focus of the new curriculum of biology. The development and utilization ofSTS education curriculum resources is the most important part of the STS education. Throughthe development and utilization of STS curriculum resources, the senior middle schoolstudents can be penetrated with STS education of biology and their scientific literacy andpractical ability can be better improved.The methods of documentary research, survey research, action research and case analysisare employed in the present study to investigate the status of STS curriculum resourcesdevelopment and utilization of senior middle school biology, in order to understand thepresent practical problems, make detailed analysis and put forward correspondingcountermeasures.Firstly, based on correct understanding of the meaning of STS education, the paperdescribes the STS educational objectives, content and manner. Starting from the definitionand classification of the STS curriculum resources combined with the actual situation, thesenior middle school biology STS curriculum resources are divided into two classes ofbiology STS tangible and intangible resources.Secondly, through the investigation and analysis of the biology teaching in junior middleschool a lot of problems are found in cooperative learning. For example, teachers have not yetformed a correct concept of curriculum resources; the security system of curriculum resourcesdevelopment and utilization is deficient; the structure of STS curriculum resourcesdevelopment and utilization is single; teachers’ ability of exploring and making use of STScurriculum resources is not high enough. On the basis of literature review and practicalinvestigations, combined with the reality of biology teaching in senior middle school,countermeasures are initially proposed.Finally, based on the discussion of the principles (STS theme principle, scientificprinciple, opening principle, life principle, principle of local conditions, and principle of economy) of STS curriculum resource development and utilization of senior middle schoolbiology, this paper discusses the approaches of development and utilization of STS seniormiddle school biology curriculum resources from the perspectives of teaching material,teachers, students and parents, schools and society.
