Reading can help students get more information, improve their language ability, enrichtheir knowledge, accumulate phrases and expressions, grow in wisdom, cultivate their taste,build their character, develop their individuality and so on. For the pupils, reading helps themimprove their language ability. In the Chinese teaching of primary school, reading has alwaysbeen the most important, taking up lots of classes, on which both the teachers and pupilsspend a lot of time, but the result is not satisfying. In the past the thought of students is oftenreplaced by teachers’" monologue", and teachers pay excessive attention to the acquirement ofknowledge and skills, ignoring method guiding, process experience and neglet students’emotion attitude and values.Teaching methods are based on infusion and teachers stess theanalysis in the process; a fixed pattern is used in teaching process--explaining the title,introducing the author and writing background, analyzing the content of the text, suming upthe main idea and the features of writing, assigning after-school exercise; The standard answeris emphasized in teaching evaluation; pupils are allowed to follow their own inclination inextracurricular reading. So more and more attention are paid to the technical operation andoverall understanding is ignored in Chinese classes. Teachers are too eager for quick success.Such teaching seriously depresses students’ interest and creativity and has a bad influence onstudents’ independent development.In this paper the present situation of reading teaching of lower grade of primary school isresearched from analysis of three aspects including setting and achieving of the teachinggoal, teaching and learning methods and teaching evaluation. With combination of children’spsychological characteristics of the low grade of primary school, specific strategies toindependent reading teaching of lower grade of primary school is put forward fromstimulating the interest of students, opening teaching process and language practice in class.In short, independent reading teaching can be realized by establishing effective teaching targetand specific teaching contents.Teachers should choose vivid contents, skillfully set questions,use the situational teaching method to arouse the students’ interest in independent reading,encourage students to personalize and creatively interpret texts, strengthen the training ofreading, enhances the students’ understanding to the text, improve the students’ readingability, and eventually cultivate students’ autonomous reading ability. This research is based on the definition of the concept of independent reading teaching in primary school, choice andanalysis of teaching strategies. And also the reasearch brings out the implication and advancedteaching idea of independent reading and presents independent Chinese reading teachingstrategy which is based on theory and easy to operate.
