A Study On The Elderly Volunteers From An Active-aging Perspective

With the intensification of aging population, the elderly cause the concern of the society increasingly, and the impact of aging population on the social development is growing. Now, the study of the elderly mostly focuses on pension, health care, etc. They regard the old people as powerless recipients. However, the study of the value of the old people and their contribution to our society is drawing attention of our society. The aging population is not a problem through the perspective of active-aging. And it emphasizes that we should look upon aging population as a positive attitude. Every country should not regard the elderly as a burden of the development and progress of society. Instead, we should find the value of the old people and their contribution to our society, so that to change the role of the elderly from the burden of the society into the driving force of the society. So, encourage and support the participation of the elderly in volunteer service is helpful to keep their physical and mental health and promote the social security. It is of great significance to the ultimate realization of active aging society.This paper, I selected the urban elderly groups as the study object and I selected the volunteer service as the study content. With an example of JS community of NJ, bibliography is employed to clear up the background and the significance of the study, including the elderly matters, active aging and the elderly volunteers, with the aid of interview to collect datum. On the basis of specific description of old-man volunteer service, this thesis analyzes the benefit to their health, participation and social security. Through the analysis, I am trying to conclude the matters of the elderly volunteer service. The analysis shows that, through participating in volunteer service, the senior and the society can realize the active-aging smoothly. At last, exploring what policies and management mechanisms should be established and what the community and the social workers can do to improve the system of the elderly in volunteer service and help seniors to realize active-aging. I’m trying to provide intellectual resources to promote the participation of old persons in volunteer service. I’m trying to explore the reality path of gerontological social work practice, and develop ideas to the creation of active-aging society.
