This thesis consists two parts:the review of literature and a clinical research. The literature review part reviewed the experimental and clinical research about hand-foot syndrome caused by anti-cancer drugs in recent years. It mainly concluded hand-foot syndrome’s epidemiology, clinical features, grading standard, pathogenesis models, relationship with chemotherapy curative effect, and the development of TCM and Western Medicine measures. Based on past studies, hand-foot syndrome is a common side reaction caused by anti-cancer drugs, mainly caused by capecitabine and biological targeted drugs. The biological targeted drugs mainly include sorafenib and sunitinib. At present, western medicine doesn’ t have the exact curative effect for the disease which traditional Chinese medicine have. But doctors of traditional Chinese medicine hold different viewpoints’of the understanding and treatment of the disease. The second part is a clinical study. Objective:To observe the clinical effect and safety of the external use of "Tongluo San" treating hand-foot syndrome caused by chemotherapy or biological targeted drugs. Methods:30malignant tumors patients with hand-foot syndrome, which were caused by chemotherapy or TKI drugs. We classify them into three syndrome types which consist of Xuhan Yuzu, Shire Dujie and Xuexu Fengzao, by observing the skin lesion and self-conscious symptom. Three symptom types are each prescribed with three treatment methods and three kinds of herbal medicine. These medicine include Tongluo San and its variations. All the patients washed and soaked the diseased regions with these herbal medicine warmly (30-35℃),20minutes every time, twice daily,7days as a cycle.Results:30patients were studied,28patients showed very good response. The effective rate and significant effective rate were93.3%(28/30)and70.0%(21/30). Conclusion:The external use of Tongluo San can improve hand-foot syndrome caused by chemotherapy and TKI safely, and the treatment is helpful for chemotherapy and biological targeted treatment. But this research is still imperfect, it can be improved by bigger sample size, including contrast tests. So it is worthy of a further clinic research in oncology. We will persist in continuing further work about treating HFS with traditional medicine.
