In recent years, a large epidemiological surveys show that the incidence ofperimenopausal syndrome is rising with the aging of society as well as extension of women’slife expectancy, Studies show that insomnia is accompanied with most perimenopausalsyndrome, which can lead to long-term sleep disorders and deteriorate existing cardiacdisease as well as psychosomatic illness, reduced quality of perimenopausal women’s life.The perimenopausal syndrome and insomnia is in correspondence with reduced level ofestrogen, vasomotor change, mood disorders, and reduced stress reaction. Western medicinetreatment is mainly focused on replacement of hormones, while long-term medication ofhormone might cause potential risk at endometrial carcinoma, breast carcinoma and ovariantumor, the incidence of venous thrombosis is also increased. Based on Chinese traditionalmedicine, clinicians seek a safe and efficient therapy has become a top priority..Flexible use of modern traditional phlegm treatment on perimenopausal insomnia hassatisfied outcomes by reviewing of ancient literature about phlegmatic hygrosis and insomnia.In their opinion, phlegm wet is the important pathological factor in perimenopausal syndromeand insomnia, flexible treatment of phlegm can relive most patients. Traditional Chinesemedicine has multi-angle, multi-level and multi-target treatment, and minimized side effects,and take the full advantages of traditional Chinese medicine, we can save patients from thesufferings of perimenopausal syndrome and insomnia.
