Describing-type Interpretation In Modern Chithnese Dictionary (5^th Edition)

Describing-type Interpretation is the common definitions in the Dictionaries’interpretation. It includes figurative interpretation and some description interpretation in thetraditional dictionaries. Its characteristic is triggering the sense impression or aroused People’sDaily experience through the description of specific image to the object, which makes theunderstanding of words become more easily. The former research stayed on making examples,lacked specific characteristics and basic principles. So it is necessary to make acomprehensive and systematic analysis.Based on the former research achievements of dictionary and lexicology, this papermakes a detailed study and description to the describing-type Interpretation in "ModernChinese Dictionary” with the combination of qualitative and quantitative methods.The article includes four parts.The first chapter is the introduction, this part Outlines the selection of topic, the origin ofthe general situation of the study of and the implications of the research.The second chapter, we defined describing-type Interpretation, the main content is not todescribe the concept of definition, but to resort to the use of common sense and describe thecharacteristics of the object; In the description, with emphasis on the description of thecharacteristics of perceived and intended to stimulate the reader’s association.The third chapter, we analyzes the describing-type Interpretation of the nouns, verbs,adjectives. The describing-type Interpretation of the noun includes color, food, implements,animals and plants. The describing-type Interpretation of verbs can be classified into twotypes, one is adopted by the way of the description of the definition, the other is a descriptionof Interpretation by describing the specific operating procedures. The describing-typeInterpretation of Adjectives describe three types, which is the states of color, taste and smell.The fourth chapter summarized the types of describing-type Interpretation, One is thedescription with analogy to explain,the other is the operation procedures of specific todescribe. Then we summarizes the principles of the describing-type Interpretation. The mainis that from the user’s point of interpretation, by describing the alleged object of theinterpretation of the word prominent, the perceived characteristics, inspire the users’ image, making Interpretation easy to understand and remember.
