The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary,compiled by Zhang Zhiyi and published by the Commercial Press,is a Chinese language learning dictionary.It attempts to break through the existing framework and model of Chinese dictionaries in concept and practice,and connect with the world learning dictionary.Taking the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Learning as the closed area,and the definition interpretation as the object,this paper discusses the innovative value of the definition interpretation in the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Learning by three research methods.And at the same time,looking for the compilation concept and means of the new Chinese learning dictionary.Dictionary interpretation includes two aspects: form and content.The form of interpretation includes the way of interpretation and the mode of interpretation.This article takes the way of interpretation as the object of study.In this situation,this article investigate the mode of interpretation.The mode of interpretation is mainly investigated by the position of the generic words.The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary mostly uses the mode in which the generic words is in the end.When there are many symbols in the species difference and the explanatory text is too long,The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary selectively puts the generic words ahead of the species difference,forming the mode in which the generic words is in the front;When there are many interpretation factors used in the species difference,The Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Learning puts some special interpretation factors behind the generic words as appropriate,forming the mode in which the generic word is in the middle.The content of interpretation includes the selection of generic words and species differences.In terms of the selection of generic words,there are four types of relations between generic words and entries in the Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary: hyponymy,synonymy,the same category and difference in part of speech.The hyponymy relations account for the vast majority.When the generic words and entries are in the same category,the interpretation mainly relies on the correlation and similarity between generic words and entries to interpretating.In the selection part of species difference,this paper adopts the theory of interpretation factors,borrows the theory of qualia structure in Generative Lexicon Theory,and refers to the ten categories of Chinese noun physical structure expanded and summarized by Yuan Yulin(2014).According to the dynamic equivalence relationship between word’s meaning and interpretation,and the actual situation of the definitional interpretation in The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary,the interpretation factors are divided into four categories: central interpretation factor,peripheral interpretation factor,sub central interpretation factor and other interpretation factors.The central interpretation factors include constitutive factors,formal factors and action factors;The peripheral interpretation factors include handle factors,evaluation factors and orientation factors;The sub central definition factors include material factor,agentive factor and telic factor;The other explanatory factors include reference term factor,iconicity factor and supplementary factor.Among them,the functional factor is used most,followed by the form factor;the construction factor,the composition factor,and the positioning factor,in which there is little difference in quantity.And the other interpretation factors are used least.Through the comparison with the definition of Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition),this article finds that there are differences in the form,content and the use of bracket-annotation.From the perspective of interpretation form,in terms of the choice of interpretation methods,Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary tends to define the definition,and Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition)will selectively use the words based on the principle of economy;In terms of the choice of the interpretation mode of individual entries,there are differences between the place of generic word The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary and Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th edition)in;In terms of the use of words for interpretation,that is,the expression of interpretation,The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary pays more attention to the application of meta-language for interpretation.From the perspective of interpretation content,the selection of generic words and interpretation factors in The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary and Modern Chinese Dictionary(7th Edition)is consistent,but there are differences in the selection and accuracy.From the perspective of the use of bracket-annotation,The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary shows a clear feature of de parenthesis.Through the comprehensive comparison and analysis,this article finds that the definition interpretation of The Contemporary Chinese Learning Dictionary shows outstanding characteristics for learnability,reflects the user-centric principle in the selection and arrangement of content,and attempts to break through the existing models and frameworks in the form and content of interpretation.However,the interpretation of individual entries still needs to be considered which can be revised by referring to the relevant theories of semantic field and meaning.
