Since the adoption of the reform and opening-up policy by the Chinese government in1978, and in particular, since China’s accession into the WTO in2001, China has been the hot spot of investment for foreign investors. A great number of foreign businessmen pour into China for business opportunity. At the same time, Chinese businessmen choose to learn from foreigners. In order to well communicate and cooperate with foreign partners. Chinese companies attach high importance to the translation of company profiles. In the late twentieth century, the functional equivalence theory was recognized and widely used by the Chinese scholars. The theory has been applied to the translation of both literary and practical texts. And the application of the theory to the company profile translation becomes very common. This report is based on the author’s own translation practice for the National Engineering Research Center for Colloidal Materials. The target text is intended to be accepted by the potential clients and foreign partners.Under the guidance of the functional equivalence theory, the author introduces the translation practice in five chapters. Firstly, she presents a brief introduction of the report and a description of the task. Then she elaborates the theory used in the translation practice and the case analysis from aspects of equivalence at lexical level and syntactic level. At last, the author summarizes her experience and gives suggestions for further discussion. It is hoped that the translation can be a good reference for the institute and that this report may give some enlightenment for those who translate such kind of profiles. In conclusion, the author benefits a lot from this translation practice, which greatly improves the ability of wording and sentence processing.
