This report is a reflection of the problem s the author en countered in part of her practice task, C-E translati on of the brochures of Chinese motor com pany. Company profiles, for publicity purposes, are difficult to translate due to the differences between the two languages and cultures. The gaps between writing style in its overall structure, sentence structure and wording, sometimes, are very hard to cross. To reach th e effect for promotion, the author thinks that adapta tions must be made at various levels to meet the needs and demands of the ta rget readers. Under the guidance of Verschueren’s adaptation theory, the author analyzed the problems common in C-E translation of com pany profiles, such as the long sentences, abstract and high-sounding expressions, addresser-oriented writing perspective and th e Chinese-style information focus. And this theo ry was also proved to b e effective for solving the problems. Though the revised versions of transl ation are not perfect, the overall quality and com munication effect are largely improved and well accep ted by the client.
