Xiang Mu’s calligraphy on neutralizing aesthetics ideas is relying on the Confuciandoctrine, and it continues the previous generation theories such as Sun Guoting’s calligraphy,so it form a complete philosophical system of calligraphy. Neutralizing aesthetics ideas as amainstream has had a significant impact on the ancient calligraphy.This paper analyzes the essence of Xiang Mu’s neutralizing idea by literature researches,that is, solving the contradictions in calligraphy, which makes calligraphy softness, fittingdensity and harmonious unity. The first part discusses Xiang Mu’s life and achievements.The second part which is based on the ancient calligraphy sorts out, analyzes, summarizesfrom five parts,including the neutralization and the neutral beauty interpretation, the ShuTong theory and the Jin Gu theory, the calligraphy body theory, the calligraphy creation ofmain body, and calligraphy aesthetics style of criticism.The third part analyzes the reasonsof Xiang Mu’s neutralizing aesthetics through the Confucian doctrine as the basis for XiangMu neutralizing aesthetics, the Sun Guoting’s thoughts inheritance in the ancient time,practicing Wang Xizhi’s calligraphy in depth, and other factors. The fourth part evaluates themeaning of Xiang Mu’s ideas in both positive and negative.This article does not ordinarily tell about Xiang Mu’ Shu Fa Ya Yan, but it regards theancient calligraphers as the object of study, combination with the Xiang Mu’s background andthe calligraphy aesthetics fashion in Ming dynasty, comparison his special value in his booksin order to understand the neutralization, perfecting the system of Chinese aesthetics.
