Stady On Correlation Between Fatigue And Salivary Cortisol Level For Nurses

ObjectiveDynamically understanding the incidence of occupational fatigue; researchthe relationship between occupational fatigue and saliva cortisol levels.Toexplore the result of the biological physical and mental health effects of nurses’fatigue.Methods130nurses were selected from the municipal central hospital of Jinzhou,Liaoning Province, using stratified random cluster sampling method. All subjectswere tested by Nurses in general questionnaire and Maslach Burnout Inventory.Saliva samples were collected at8AM and detected for cortisol concentrationby ELISA. Statistical description, Analysis of variance, Independent-Samples ttest, Pearson correlation analysis and Multivariate stepwise regression analysisof data.ResultsResult showed that the occupational fatigue was in medium plus level. Theconcentrations of saliva cortisol at different age\different education\differentprofessional job title\different work experience\different department, and thedifference was statistically no different (P>0.05). The saliva cortisol levels wereno correlation with age\education\professional job title\work experience\department (P>0.05); the saliva cortisol levels at different status of occupationalfatigue were different, and the difference was statistically different.(P<0.05).The saliva cortisol levels and occupational fatigue were very significantly correlated(P<0.05，r>0.5), the concentrations of saliva cortisol were positivelyrelated with emotional exhaustion and depersonalization, and negatively withpersonal accomplishment. the Multivariate stepwise regression equation（y=0.097X1+0.376X2－0.224X3+29.533）was set up.ConclusionsThe secretion of saliva cortisol might be increased due to occupationalfatigue for nurses. The hospital administration should pay attention on theimpact of occupational fatigue on nurses, and take care of their health andwellbeing. The analysis of saliva cortisol might scientifically quantify the statusof occupational quantify the status of occupational fatigue for nurses.
