ObjectiveTo investigate the mental health status of the disaster relief medical staff forYuShu Earthquake one year later, analyze how did the training of the disasterrelief related knowledge affect their mental health status, discuss theacquirement of the disaster relief related knowledge of the medical staff and thecorresponding demand. So as to provide the basis to carry out the training of thedisaster relief related knowledge and maintain their mental health better.MethodsThe mental health and the relevant situation of228members of medicalstaff were investigated by Symptom Checklist90(SCL-90),Posttraumatic StressDisorder Checklist-Civilian Version(PCL-C) and the self-designed questionnaire.The score of SCL-90and PCL-C were graded as levels of from1to5,accordingto the severity of the symptoms, the lower the score the better the psychologicalstate.ResultsThe mental health status of all the medical staff investigated was betterthan that of the adult norms. The comparison of total score of SCL-90and itsfactional scores between rescue group and no rescue group,rescue groupscored lower than no rescue group. There were significant differences in totalscore of SCL-90and its factional scores between the two groups(P<0.05),except for in somatization, anxiety and phobia factor(P>0.05). Both rescuegroup and no rescue group were in the same order among the average scoresof three symptoms in PCL-C, the score of trauma re-experience ranged thehighest, that of numbness and avoidance second, and the increased vigilance lowest. The comparison of various indexes of SCL-90between the medical stafftrained and those who without training in rescue group and no rescue grouprespectively. Two groups had the similar results. It was shown that the medicalstaff trained group scored lower than the other group. There were significantdifferences in various indexes of SCL-90(P<0.05),except for in hostile factor(P>0.05).There were95.18percentages of the medical staffs thought that theacquirement of the disaster relief related knowledge was helpful to maintaintheir mental health, The investigation of the knowledge showed that theacquirement of the knowledge that was involved in daily work was relativelybetter than others. There were96.05percentages of medical staffs show theneeds for training education on the disaster relief related knowledge. Theeffective way to improve the level of the disaster relief related knowledge of themedical staff is training education, we should carry out it actively.ConclusionsThe psychological quality of all the medical staff investigated was higher.Rescue itself was a positive effect on maintain their mental health better.Acquiring the disaster relief related knowledge was helpful to maintain theirmental health. Now the disaster relief related knowledge level of the medicalstaff is not very high, the disaster relief related psychology and generalknowledge is relatively low. So it is necessary to carry out the training educationof the disaster relief related knowledge according to the medical staff’sknowledge distribution.We should carry out the standardized training educationactively and make full use of the convenience of the network in order to improvethe knowledge level of the medical staff.
