Objective:To investigate the awareness rate of the " MentalHealth Law of the People’s Republic of China" and the knowledge of mentalhealth in the medical staff; to explore the related factors of the medical staff ‘sattitude toward the mental illness; to analyze the relationship between theawareness level and the attitude of the mental disease in the medical staff. So toprovide the data and the theoretical basis for the implementation of the " MentalHealth Law of the People’s Republic of China" and improvement of themedical staff ‘s mental health service ability. Methods:The random samplingmethod was used to select the medical staff who were on duty in a generalhospital and a psychiatric hospital. The self-made general questionnaire, theawareness of the Mental Health Law scale, the mental health knowledgequestionnaire and the mental illness attitude questionnaire were used in thesurvey. The SPSS15.0was used for the statistical analysis. Proportionsdescription was applied in the awareness of the Mental Health Law scale andthe mental health knowledge questionnaire. The differences between the groupswere used X2test. The data of the mental illness attitude questionnaire wasdescribed with(x±s)and the differences between the groups were used t test oranalysis of variance, in which the a was defined as0.5. Results: The randomsampling method was used to investigate656medical staff and all thequestionnaires were valid. The findings were: the pass rate of the knowledge of mental health law in Luzhou Medical staff was83.2%, the rate in the specialhospital questionnaire (92.3%) was higher than that in the general hospitalquestionnaire (82.2%); the pass rate of the female questionnaire(87.3%)washigher than that in the male qustionnaire (74.5%); the pass rate in thepsychiatric medical staff questionnaire (94.4%) was higher than that in thenon-psychiatric medical staff questionnaire (81.1%), and all the abovedifferences were statistically significant (P <0.05). The result of related factorsanalysis showed the score of the questionnaire in the medical staff of thegeneral hospital, non-psychiatric, male and the degree higher than master waslow. The total response rate of the mental health knowledge questionnaire was78.83%.The score of the medical staff in the special hospital(16.57±3.29)andin the psychiatric medical staff (17.32±2.99)were higher than that in othermedical staff and the differences between the two groups were statisticallysignificant (P <0.05). The total score of the mental illness attitude questionnairewas(30.07±5.72), in which only33.38%medical staff holding a positiveattitude,32.03%medical staff holding a neutral attitude and34.59%medicalstaff holding a negative attitude. The attitude toward the mental illness patientsof the female medical staff(30.64±5.33)was better than the male medical staff(28.83±6.33) and the differences between the two groups were statisticallysignificant (P<0.05). The attitude toward the mental illness patients of the nurse(30.66±5.43)was more positive than the doctor(29.31±6.00) and thedifferences between the two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:The awareness of the Mental Health Law and the knowledge of the mental health was high in the Luzhou medical staff. The awareness rate ofthe medical staff in the special psychiatric hospital and in the psychiatricdepartment of the general hospital was higher than the other groups. And theattitude toward the mental illness patients was generally negative.
