Objective:To explore mental health status and its determinate factors among medical staff, and to provide scientific evidence for setting up relevant mental health intervention.Methods:17170medical staff (including doctors, nurses, inspectors, pharmacologists and administrators, et al) were selected from445medical healthcare institutions at various levels in Hunan province by multi-stage cluster random sampling. Chi-square test and ANOVA were used on univariate analyses, and non-conditional logistic regression models were used to screen the determinants on the medical staff’s mental health status. Results:The prevalence of anxiety and depression among medical staff were35.3%and64.6%, in which the highest is nurses(38.6%and67.9%), followed by doctor(37.1%and67.1%). The prevalence of depression in female(65.8%) was significantly higher than male(61.9%); the prevalence of anxiety and depression in primarily medical staff (37.2%and65.8%)were significantly higher than associate professors or above(33.6%and54%); social support scores, objective support scores, subjective support scores and social support utilization among detected positive cases were significantly lower than detected negative cases. Data from multivariable logistic regression models showed that:work as nurses, work overtime frequently, works on the night shift more often, tension of doctor-patient relation, lack of a sense of security in medical dispute, feel difficult in promotion, lack respect of support at work, lack sense of understanding among colleagues, much criticism from manager, feel ignored were risk factors for medical staff’s anxiety; high satisfaction with work environment, chance for further study, talk with someone or participate entertainment activities in the face of stress, high score of society support were protective factors for anxiety. work as doctors or nurses, work overtime frequently, works on the night shift more often, lack of a sense of security in medical dispute, feel difficult in promotion, lack sense of support at work, lack sense of understanding among colleagues and feel ignored were risk factors for depression; high satisfaction with work environment, chance for further study, talk with someone or participate entertainment activities in the face of stress and high score of society support were protective factors for depression. Conclusion:Improving medical staff’s mental health status and setting up relevant intervention were in urgent need.
