With the progress of society and development of medical health services, medicalstaff are facing new opportunities and challenges. In recent years, scholars have paidattention to mental health of nurses, but the doctor’s mental health received little attentionfrom scholars. Compared to the general medical staff, medical staff in the army hospitalworking under greater pressure. As health envoy, it is very important to pay close attentionto mental health of medical staff. And the relationship between personality traits andmental health is one of the important issues in psychology, bad personality traits is animportant factor for mental health problems induced, and more and more attentions areconcentrating to the research investigating mental health on personality traits.The purpose of this research was to study the mental health status of medical staff inthe army hospital, to discuss the relationship between personality trait and mental health.The study randomly selected410medical staff, used Psychological Health Inventory,Eysenck Personality Questionnaire and Statistic Package for Social Science as theassessment tool. Through statistic analysis method such as descriptive statistics, T-test,analysis of variance, correlation analysis and regression analysis.The results showed that:(1) The ratios of symptom,which was appeared at medical staff of the army hospitalin somatization, depression, anxiety, hypomania, psychopathic deviates ratios, were19.2%,18.4%,17.6%,11.5%,9.3%; the ratios of serious problems detected in somatization,hypomania, psychopathic deviates, depression were6.1%,4.0%,3.7%,3.5%.(2)The scores of medical staff in the army hospital were higher than that of generalpopulation in DEP and HMA.(3) The scores of female were higher than male in SOM, DEP and ANX; the scores ofmedical staff in different culture level were different significantly in three factors of SOM,DEP and ANX; scores of nurse, doctors, technicians were different significantly in SOM,DEP, ANX, HYP and UNR; scores of medical staff in different income level weredifferent significantly in SOM, DEP, ANX.(4) The scores medical staff at Extraversion were significantly higher than thenational norm, significantly lower than the national norm on the other factors.(5) Psychoticism was positively correlated with each factor of PHI (except HMA),Extraversion had no significant correlation with PSD and UNR, and had negative correlation with the other factors, Neuroticism was positively related to each factor ofPHI.(6) Explaination of Psychoticism and Neuroticism has reached a significant level forSOM; explanation of extraversion and neuroticism for DEP contribution is significant;explanation of Psychoticism, Extraversion and Neuroticism for ANX is significant;explanation of Psychoticism and Neuroticism for PSD is significant; and explanation ofExtraversion and Neuroticism for HMAis significant.Get the following conclusion:(1) As the huge pressure of work and occupation particularity, medical staff in thearmy hospital detected a higher rate of serious problems on four factors,such assomatization, hypomania, depression and psychopathic deviate.(2) Because of professional stress and working pressure, mental health of the medicalstaff working in the army hospital is worse than the general population.(3) Demographic variables such as gender, marital status, education level, incomestatement, post type have significant influence on the mental health.(4) The medical staff disposition extroversion,because they need to maintain goodcommunication with patients and their families, special occupation makes thememotionally stable, friendly enthusiasm.(5) The mental health and personality traits are closely related: psychoticism andneuroticism were significantly positively related to mental health, extroversion waspositively correlated with hypomania, negatively correlated with the other factors inmental health.(6) Personality traits have prediction effect on mental health. Mental health status ofmedical staff, whose attitude is unfriendly to others and moodiness is unstable, is low,medical staff, who is outgoing, can maintain a high state of excitement, and they can keepa high level of mental health.According to the survey, researcher propose some measures to raise the level ofmental health of medical staff, such as constructing the colleague support system, improvestatus of nurses, increase the opportunity of further study, create hospital culture andperfect psychological counseling agencies.
