Objective:This article aims to discuss the correlation between malocclusion and the oral health related quality of life in order to assess treatment need and motive for clinical therapy. Methods:The research takes students from four universities in QHD as objects to study the association between malocclusion and oral health-related quality of life. A way of hierarchy and capacity of random selection is used to choose the400students that participate in the clinical examination and questionnaire survey.90of them are eliminated according to exclusive criteria, therefore, actually the effective number is310including157boys and153girls. Average age is20.8.1. Record the IOTN-DHC examination result ranging from I to V by combining clinical oral examination and model study. Each subject compares his teeth with10photos that represent different dental conditions repectively and choose the one most similiar to his. and researchers record his code as1to10.2. Study the same group of people with OHRQoL-UK. The UK table contains16items that belongs to3domains that are physically, psychologically and socially related to oral health. Subjects make choices according to their oral health conditions during the previous month and researchers collect both their total score and their subscores in the3domains respectively.3. Compare the gender difference in both DHC/AC and UK to make sure if it is necessary to divide the groups according to different genders. Make Spearman relevant analysis between UK total score, its subscore and DHC(I-V) and AC(1-10). Analyze correlation between malocclusion and OHRQOL. Compare their subscores in the3domains respectively and find the most OHRQOL affected part.Results:1. Comparing gender difference in DHC/AC and UK has no statistical meaning.2. Through the relevant analysis between UK total score and subscores, and DHC and AC, we can find that they have negative correlation. DHC correlation is more than AC on total score. On subitems, DHC correlation is more than AC in physical aspect while AC is more than DHC in social aspect, and both P-value is <0.01, i.e, they are statistically significant.3. The psychological subscore is the lowest in UK, which suggests that the most affected part of OHRQOL lies in psychological aspect..Conclusion:1. Malocclusion has negative correlation with oral health-related quality of life in university students. This kind of correlation has no gender difference..2. Both IOTN-DHC and IOTN-AC have obvious negative correlation with oral health-related quality of life. DHC has the biggest correlation in physical aspect while AC is mostly correlated in psychological aspect.
