Objective: To study the personality characteristics of orthodontic teenagers and its effect on the OHRQo L during the early stage of the orthodontic treatment, orthodontists can better understand and comprehend the mental conditions and subjective feelings of patients and can provide patients with individual therapeutic plans according to their personal characteristics,so as to improve the quality of treatments as well as the satisfaction of patients. Methods: In this study, all cases were collected from juvenile orthodontic patients according to the strict inclusion and exclusion criteria.103 patients aged from 11 to 15 were selected to participate in the questionnaire survey. The personality characteristics of all the participants were measured by Eysenck Personality Questionnaire. The scale contains four dimensions: extraversion—introversion, neuroticism—emotional stability, psychoticism and lie.The lie dimension reflects the extent of cover-up and the authenticity of the answer, and it does not make statistical analysis.Use the Oral Health Impact Profile(OHIP-14)to evaluate participants' level of OHRQo L before the orthodontic treatment, evaluate again a week after the treatment started and do a revaluation every 6th weeks.5 evaluations are needed in total. The effect of personality characteristics on the OHRQo L of orthodontic teenagers was analyzed by SPSS 21.0 software.Results:(1)There was a significant difference in the score of the OHIP-14 of adolescent patients at different time points(P<0.05).The score increased sharply in the first week, and then decreased to the level before treatment gradually. There was no significant difference in the score of the OHIP-14 between different genders(P>0.05).(2)There was a significant difference in the trend of the score of OHIP-14 among introverted, intermediate and extroverted patients at different time points(P<0.001).Among them, the score of introverted patients at each time point was the highest, which showed that participants with high level of introversion had worse OHRQo L.(3)There was a significant difference in the trend of the score among low neurotic, intermediate and high neurotic patients at different time points(P<0.001).The score of the patients with high level of neuroticism was the highest among the three groups, and had a sharp rise in the first week, which showed that high neuroticism was associated with poor OHRQo L level in the early stage of the orthodontic treatment.(4)Besides psychological discomfort, social disability and handicap, the score of OHIP-14 of the patients with high psychoticism was significantly higher than those of intermediate and low psychoticism type at different time points(P<0.001),which indicated that patients with high psychoticism may have a poor OHRQo L level at the early stage of orthodontic treatment.Conclusion:(1)The OHRQo L of juvenile patients may be affected by the orthodontic treatment, especially in the first 6 weeks, and gender seems to have no significant effect on OHRQo L.(2)Personality characteristics may influence the OHRQo L of juvenile patients in the early stage of the orthodontic treatment.OHRQo L is more stable, and faster to recover in extroverted,lowneuroticism,low-psychoticism,and intermediate patients, while high-neuroticism,highpsychoticism,and introverted patients may have worse OHRQo L.(3)The personality characteristics of patients should also become an important part of orthodontic assessment.Orthodontists should try to improve the OHRQo L level of patients according to their personality characteristics during the treatment, which helps better improve patients' compliance, satisfaction as well as the medical quality.
