Objective: To discuss the regular usage and features of herbs on metrorrhagia andmetrostaxis in Qing dynasty, and its influence to the modern physicians. Methods:Prescription metrology research methods were used to analyze different samples of herbson metrorrhagia and metrostaxis treatment, which also adopted in correlation analysis andcluster analysis.Selecting prescriptions from literatures of medical theories and consiliaseparately in the Qing dynasty, meanwhile, bringing into the literatures of medicaltheories before the Ming dynasty and the prescriptions from masters of traditional Chinesemedicine and general physicians in modern society as comparison, establishing Livermeridian index, Spleen meridian index, cold and heat index, Qi-tonifying index,Blood-tonifying index, Yin-tonifying index and Yang-tonifying index, index of astringentand activating blood circulation, habitually using index, multi-syndrome generalindex, etc. At the same time, studying astringents usage of metrorrhagia and metrostaxistreatment from periodicals within the last10years. Discussing and exploring the theory oftraditional Chinese medicine on the basis of data analysis. Results:1. In the Qing dynasty, the higher frequency of herbs in metrorrhagia and metrostaxis treatment were followed byAngelica sinensis, White Paeony Root, donkey-hide gelatin, atractylodes macrocephala, glycyrrhiza, ginseng, rehmanniae and Poria, etc.3periods were slightly uneven. Hot sexherbs were more used than others(P1.1=0.408,B1.12=0.725), highlighted in late Qingdynasty (P’1.2=0.702).Compared with the consilia, Qi-tonifying herbs were more used intraditional documents of theories(P2.1>P2.2),while hematinic were more used inconsilia.(P’2.2>P’2.1),still highlighted in late Qing dynasty.Liver meridian index washighest (Zg=0.613). In the Qing dynasty, the activating blood circulation herbs were moreused on documents of theories during the early and middle time, the consilia showedhigher astringent usage(P’3.2=0.631).2. Usage of various index in the Ming and Qingdynasty was basically at the same situation, Qing dynasty medium-term was more closer(r=0.740,p=0.036),and then was the Early time. Doctors before Ming dynasty, theindex of P3.1and P2showed slightly differences with Qing dynasty, and they had the mostrelevant with Late Qing dynasty(r=0.911,p=0.002).3. Masters of traditional Chinesemedicine used more herbs of glycyrrhiza, Angelica sinensis, atractylodes macrocephala,Codonopsis pilosula,White Paeony Root.General herbs’ usage was closer to the literaturesof medical theories in Ming dynasty(r=0.956,p=0.000).And it had relevance with threeperiod of Qing dynasty(p<0.05), in which the Middle time higher(r=0.946,p=0.000).General physicians were closer with consilia and further to theories.4. Metrorrhagia andmetrostaxis treatment in periodicals, using astringents was higher, which the average ratiowas23.52%. Rehmanniae, donkey-hide gelatin with other7herbs were habitually usingastringents in metrorrhagia and metrostaxis treatment. Blood-tonifying astringents werecommon herbs in prescription. Conclusion: Doctors in Qing dynasty inheritted thepredecessors in academic and clinical experience, meanwhile, had some innovations anddevelopments. Metrorrhagia and metrostaxis treatment used more deficiency-tonifyingherbs,warm and hot sex herbs, Liver meridian herbs.Their experience has further influnceon modern physicians,on which had been showened. Masters of traditional Chinesemedicine have different revelance from general physicians,it just indicates that masterspay attention on studying the clinical experience as same as inheritting academic theroy. The all studies above will become the basis for us to learn the ways about acient andmodern masters’ theories of curring metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, and even other diseases.
