Abstract/Summary:
Objective1,To study the age-related changes of male serum Procollagen I N-terminal Propeptide (PINP),β-Crosslaps and N-MID Osteocalcin (N-MID) of men, as well as their correlations with bone mineral density (BMD).2, To observe the clinical efficacy of Bushen Zhuanggu Granules in increasing bone mass and improving bone metabolism in aged males through comparison within Bushen Zhuanggu Granules group before and after treatment, and comparison between Bushen Zhuanggu Granules group and Alendronate Sodium Tablets or Caltrate D group after treatments.Methods1, the levels of serum PINP,β-Crosslaps and N-MID were tested by electrochemiluminescence immunoassay.2, BMD of lumbar spine1-4, femoral neck, wards, troch and femur were measured by American GE company’s Lunar Prodigy dual energy X ray bone density meter.3, The subjects were divided into3groups according to treatment time, the Bushen Zhuanggu Granules group was given Bushen Zhuanggu Granules group+Caltrate D, Alendronate Sodium Tablets group was given Alendronate Sodium Tablets+Caltrate D and Caltrategroup D only take Caltrate D.Results1, PINP,β-crosslaps and N-MID were negative correlated with male age, also showing a good negative correlation with BMD of lumbar spine1-4, left femoral neck, Ward’s, troch and left femur.2, Analysis of variance showed, while men over70years divided into groups acorrding to BMD, the PINP, β-Crosslaps and N-MID of osteoporosis group were significantly higher than that of normal bone mass group; β-Crosslaps and N-MID of osteoporosis group is significantly higher than that of the low bone mass group.3, After six months treatment, PINP, β-Crosslaps and N-MID of the Bushen Zhuanggu Granules Group decreased significantly, BMD of left femoral neck, Ward’s and left femur increased significantly; compared with Caltrate D group after treatment, Bushen Zhuanggu Granules group showed better efficacy in improving bone metabolism and increasing BMD in elder men, while compared with Alendronate Sodium Tablets group, Bushen Zhuanggu Granules showed a similar efficacy.Conclusion1, PINP,β-Crosslaps and N-MID are sensitive and specific bone biochemical markers which are indicators of the bone turnover in men. Monitoring these markers help the prevention and early treatment of osteoporosis.2, In men over70, the bone biochemical markers of low bone mass and osteoporosis group were significantly increased compared with that of the normal bone mass group, suggesting that bone turnover of these male osteoporosis patients was high, and high bone turnover caused quick lose of bone mass;3-Crosslaps and N-MID can be applied to identify whether an individual is susceptible to osteoporosis.3, Bushen Zhuanggu Granules is safe and effective medicine for the treatment of senile osteoporosis, it could increase bone mass and improve bone metabolism in aged male with osteoporosis.
