ObjectiveTo evaluate the function of acupuncture in treating children with Autism, this paper adopted acupuncture method to treat Autism and assessed the clinical symptoms of the children before and after the treatment by using CARS. It unified the nerve electrophysiology examination method to observe the changes of the children’s EEG singals.MethodsAll the cases of this research subject came from the patients who accepted treatments in the Department of Acupuncture of Shenzhen Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital from October,2011to March,2012. Under the premises of agreements of the patients’parents or other guardians, according to the inclusive and exclusive criterias of western medicine, this research had40children with Autism divided into two groups, the Treated Group(20children) and the Contrast Group(20children). For the Treated Group, it selected The Four Spirit Points, The3-Points in the Temporal Area, The3-Occipital Points, The3-Points for Intelligence, etc. as the main points. The points on the front or back were adopted rapid pricking need l ing method without needle retaining. The needle should be inserted to a depth of0.1to0.3cun. The points on the head were horizontally needled, while the other points were perpendicular inserted to a depth of0.5to0.8cun. Retain the needles for60minutes, twirl ing once every20minutes and1second for each needle wi thout reinforcing and reducing manipulation. Pull out all the needles after the third-time twirling. The patients should be treated five times each week. A course of treatment was40times, totally3courses. For the Contrast Group, they were trained by the special school. Observation index:Both two groups were observed by the symptoms before and after the treatment by using CARS and the changes of the children’s EEG singals.Results1. The clinical effect of the Treated Group is better than that of the Contrast Group.2. The Amelioration of symptoms assessed by CARS:Except the social relationship, the ability of the body, the reaction to the close feel ing and the non-vocal communication, the Treated group improved more than the Contrast Group (P<0.05).3. After the treatment, EEG signals except β, and s, of the Treated Group changed more than the Contrast Group.4. After the treatment, both two groups’Attention were higher than before. The improvement of the Treated Group is more feasible than the Contrast Group (P<0.05)Cone I us i ons1. This study indicates preliminarily that using the theory of "TiaoRentongDu-Brain-functional development" as guide to treat the Autism with acupuncture is feasible.2. The study results showed that to some certain extent, acupuncture treatment can promote the patients’function development in social communication.3. After the acupuncture treatment, the patients’ clinical symptoms improvement basically tallies with the analysis of EEG. G.
