ObjectiveTo observe the effect of wind-heat type acute phase of Bell’s Palsy, treated by pricking blood therapy on LI11acupuncture point.MethodsThe randomized controlled single-blinded clinical trial was selected to study.60patients conforming to the standards of wind-heat type acute phase of Bell’s Palsy were considered as study subjects. According to the ratio of1:1, the patients were randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group and the control group. The fundamental treatment was that both the two groups will take Prednisone and Methylcobalamin. Simultaneously, the common acupuncture method and electro-acupuncture method were also adopted in both two groups, five times a week, lasted4weeks. And these acupuncture point were selected, the affected side Yangbai(GB14), Sibai(ST2), Quanliao(ST18), Jiache(ST6), Dicang(ST4), Yifeng(SJ17), healthy side Hegu(LI4). Pricking blood with cupping on LI11acupuncture point was added in the treatment group. Before and after the treatment, using the House-Brackmann facial nerve function evaluation hierarchical system and Nottingham rating system to check if the patients improved. And Yanagihara facial grading system is used each time before the patients do the treatment. Statistical software SPSS13.0was adopted to analyze the collected data.ResultThere was no statistical difference of gender, age and course of disease between the treatment group and the control group. Before the treatment, there were no apparent differences between the Patients’House-Brackmann and Nottingham and Yanagihara scores (P>0.05). It means the treatment group and the control group were comparable. After the treatment, the Nottingham and Yanagihara scores in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group, which was statistical difference (P<0.05). The total effective rate was90.0%in the treatment group, while it was86.7%in the control group. The total effective rate has significant difference (P>0.05). The effective rate of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group. The onset time of the treatment group was8.80±7.07days, while it was12.63±6.74days on the control group. It was obviously that the onset time of the treatment group was much shorter than that of the control group. And there was statistical difference of the onset time between the two groups.ConclusionThe study shows that when curing the wind-heat type acute phase of Bell’s Palsy, adding pricking blood therapy with cupping on Quchi (LI11) acupuncture point was more effected than the therapy of common acupuncture and electro-acupuncture. It could improve the total effective rate, shorten the onset time. The facial nerve function was restored more quickly.
