ObjectiveTo explore the clinical effect on acupuncture with Zhao’s lei huo moxibustion in treating patients with wind-cold pattern of Bell’s palsy, and to explore it’s possible therapeutic mechanism.MethodsThis study collected70patients, who were meet the diagnostic criteria of wind-cold pattern of Bell’s palsy and received treatment during in March2013and December2013at out-patient department of acupuncture in Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine, with single-blind randomized controlled trial the70patients were randomly divided into treatment group35patients and control group35patients. The patients of treatment group were treating with Zhao’s lei huo moxibustion, the patients of control group were treating with traditional acupuncture. The70patients all received15treatments in3weeks, the interval during2treatment≥1day. We evaluated all patients’s facial nerve function before treatment, at the end of treatment, one month after the end of treatment with the House-Brackmann Rating Scale, Facial Disability Index (FDI) and Burres-Fisch facial nerve scoring system. House-Brackmann Rating Scale is the key indexes of clinical evaluation, while Facial Disability Index (FDI) and Burres-Fisch facial nerve scoring system were the secondary indexes of clinical evaluation. Adverse reactions and side effects were recorded at anytime during the research process. Using SPSS18.0statistical software to analyze the collected data.ResultsTreatment groups:cured12cases, excellent14cases, effective7cases, inefficacy0cases, the total efficiency were100%. Control group:cured7 cases, excellent12cases, effective12cases,inefficacy2cases, the total efficiency were93.94%. The constituent ratios of gender and age couldn’t be found different with statistical significance between the two groups. The Patients’ House-Braekmann, the FDIP, FDIS and Burres-Fisch score were also incomparable (P>0.05). After the treatment, the two groups were comparable. The FDIP, FDIS, Burres-Fisch scores of two groups were all significantly improved, there were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). On security aspects:All patients with Bell’s palsy have no adverse reactions during received treatment.Conclusion1. Comparison of the two groups at baseline equal comparable.2. There was a significant difference between the two groups, suggesting that Zhao thunderbolt moxibustion Bell’s Palsy is superior to conventional cold-type acupuncture group.3. Acupuncture and moxibustion security is good.
