| After the marketization reform of urban housing in1998, commodity housing become to be the main body of the housing supply in China. But with the widening of the gap between the rich and the poor, a large number of urban low-income families face housing difficulties. To protect the the diversity of needs of families of different income on housing, countries begin to give great efforts to build affordable housing, Including affordable housing, resettlement housing and low-rent housing mainly. Overall, the speed and scale of the construction of affordable housing is very amazing. But the studies for affordable housing are relatively limited, mainly concentrated in the affordable housing policy, siting and social effects, and lack of systematic study on social space of the low income residences. The paper attempts to explain the phenomenon of the low income residences, to analyze the nature of the problem and found that the general law of development. The paper hopes to make some contributions on improving the urban social geography research of low income residences, and provides a reference for the healthy and sustainable development of the low income residences in China.Taking JingMingJiaYuan in Nanjing as an example, the paper hopes to study the development process of low income residences through empirical investigations on the of mature low income residences. The paper attempts to analyze the spatial evolution of the low income residences, objectively describe the social spatial characteristics, and to find out the status of resident identity and social interaction by literature review, macro data, questionnaires, interviews with residents and field observations and other research methods, based on this, reveals the space of the production process and the dynamic mechanism of China’s low income residences, and rationally analyze the social and spatial effects.The paper is divided into six chapters. Chapter1is to elaborate research background, propose research questions, review literatures on four aspects, including sociospatial, gentrification, poverty inhabited by space and the development of affordable housing, select the production of space, social space dialectics and social identity as a theoretical basis for research, and then design the paper’s technology route. Chapter2is distribution characteristics and evolution of space for the low income residences. This chapter shows "the edge-the core-and then edge" of the stage cycling characteristics through analyzing the spatial evolution of the low income residences from the macro and micro level. Chapter3is social and spatial characteristics of the low income residences. This chapter analyzes social and spatial characteristics of JingMingJiaYuan through living conditions, support services and facilities, employment environment and traffic travel. And investigate self-identity and social interaction of the residents to show the social and recycling process of the low income residences. Chapter4is the process of space production and dynamical mechanism of the low income residences. Analyze push factors of generation, development and evolution of the low income residences from the system policy, the economy, residents’ behavior and planning and design and community management level. And summits up the dynamic mechanism of the low income residences. Chapter5is the effects of social space of the low income residences. Chapter6is the conclusion and discussion of the paper. To answer the questions posed at the beginning of the paper, summarize the main conclusions of the study. Try to give some development advices to make the low income residences avoid disadvantages and point out the lack of research, and then look to the future of research directions.
