With the age composition changes of Chinese population, aging society come to be a sharp increase of the urban elderly population, the survey shows that outdoor gardening activities gradually become the leisure activities of older people, therefore, green residential area is not only an important part of the residential areas in addition to meet basic functional requirements to improve the environment and the living, it also bear the new features of gardening venues for the elderly.This study focus on scattered residential district building surrounding land, with the methods of field surveys and comprehensive analysis, based on Landscape Ecology, Ornamental horticulture, Leisure sociology y, Environmental behavior and other related disciplines for the district in the older the plant flowers in the horticultural activities of the issues and the design of the elderly like pocket garden mode. the results shows:based on field surveys and questionnaires about the elderly outdoor horticultural activities in the residential district of Changsha City, the results show:Gardening activity is a most popular activities of the elderly, so it is essential to plan a certain area from public green space to gardening activities for the elderly. At present, horticultural activities for the elderly in the residential district is not standardized, and widespread phenomenon of arbitrarily placed potted and planted flowers on the public green, so there is a certain negative impact on the residential area landscaping. The elderly gardening activities are not organization and management, and service system has not yet formed habits.An important design point will be propose for the five modes for the design of the residential experience pocket garden and design elements for all types of Pocket Garden. The five modes include the natural landscape-style, flower border style, flowers desktop, scaffolding, mold pattern and style.Experience Pocket Garden design pattern applied to the design of actual cases.
