| The garden is an explicit artistic image.It is deeply rooted in China’s material and cultural soil.It draws on the strengths of a hundred schools of art,combines function with aesthetics,and incorporates the philosophy of harmony between man and nature.In the long river of history,continuous derivation and changes have nurtured all-encompassing garden art and formed a unique Chinese classical garden system.As one of the branches of its system,Buddhist temple gardens occupy an important position in the history of garden art.In terms of quantity,it is many times higher than private gardens and imperial gardens;in terms of function,as a place for religious activities,it also has the relevant functions of public gardens;in terms of garden art,due to the particularity of religion,and its influence on traditional religious art Inherent inheritance,it still maintains the garden characteristics similar to the old one,it is worthy of people to observe and appreciate.On the basis of referring to a large number of Buddhist temple gardens literature and works,with typical Buddhist temple gardens as the construction standard,the Buddhist temple gardens in coastal areas of Zhejiang were selected objectively for exploration.The main areas include Hangzhou,Ningbo,Zhoushan,Tiantai and other areas.In the field investigation of the 23 Buddhist temple gardens in this area,a large amount of first-hand information was obtained through inquiry and photographs,combined with the analysis of relevant literature and works,in the summary,the artistic characteristics of the Buddhist temple gardens in the coastal area of Zhejiang were drawn out.Based on the historical perspective of Zhejiang coastal area,Buddhism has prospered here since ancient times,and there have been many temples.Buddhist temple gardens along with the sinicization process and evolution of Buddhism in Zhejiang coastal area have a distinctive regional historical imprint.From a geographical perspective,the Buddhist temple gardens in the coastal areas of Zhejiang follow the principle of adapting measures to local conditions.They choose to be located in the beautiful scenery of famous mountains and rivers,and follow the trend to derive garden art features with distinctive regional characteristics,which are typical and representative.Taking this as the starting point,the focus is on the analysis of the gardening features such as site selection,architecture and layout,plant landscaping,and waterscape construction.The Buddhist temple gardens in the coastal areas of Zhejiang present a harmonious beauty that is regular but not limited to form.Affected by the subtle influence of Zen Buddhism,the artistic conception of gardens is outstanding.Its spirit of gardening surpasses the search for form.The garden is fully compatible with the natural environment.It shows the beauty of the gardening conception of Zen Buddhism,and at the same time it has the beauty of tranquility.In addition,cultural and artistic elements such as poetry and poems,couplets and plaques that have been handed down through the ages have played a good role in the gardens,creating a rich cultural landscape of Buddhist temple gardens in the region. |
