High temperature gas cooled reactor nuclear power is one of the major science and technology projects in China. High temperature gas cooled reactor is the most advanced fourth generation reactor in the world, so the foundation building of the whole nuclear power plant adopts the internationally state-of-the-art building automatic control system. The building automatic control system (BAS) is the combination of building technology, automatic control and computer network technology, which provides the whole building with the properties of an intelligent building. It takes comprehensive control over all the subsystems within the building, such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, water supply and drainage, power supply and distribution, lightening, elevator, fire-fighting, and security system, and is an important part of this intelligent building.Since the power plant lies on the east coast of Shandong Peninsula with the Yellow Sea to its east, it enjoys a typical maritime climate, which features with humid and windy summer and dry and snowy winter. This climate requires a lot of the cooling, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and water supply and drainage systems, and thus a lot manpower is needed to maintain those systems so as to keep them function well. This paper is to discuss how the integrated application of DDC controller technology, network communication technology and human-computer interface works to realize the automatic control of the air-conditioning system within the buildings of this power plant. The BAS monitors and controls the cooling, ventilation and air-conditioning systems and equipment, so as to create an efficient, energy-saving, comfortable, high cost-effective, pleasant and safe working environment. In this way, the management will be improved and energy and manpower be saved. The user program and human-computer interface provide the manager with such functions as graph controlling, history recording, dynamic drawing, events arranging, alarming and remote accessing, and so on. The status of equipment can be monitored, so as to control the data and operate data recording and inquiry. The dynamitic operation and management of equipment is ensured, which replaces the equipment maintenance by manpower.The field operation result of BAS shows that, this system not only satisfies such automatic control requirements as integrated control and management of electrical and mechanical devices within the building, energy saving, monitoring, and independent operation, but also has such advantages as high reliability, stability and flexibility.
