Research On The Design Of South-facing Garden Balcony In Changsha

For the reason that urban land resource is extremely scarce, the building density is increased and the ecological environment is getting worse during the rapid development of urbanization. The constructers are promoted to utilize urban land intensively as a result of the development of high density cities. The perfect combination of ecological environment and utilization of high-serried urban land is becoming a vital research subject. The author write this paper that introduce the notion——balcony garden through combining the concept of architecture and greening is to analyze south-facing balcony garden of Changsha, consulting a large number of domestic and foreign relevant theories and cases material and field investigations.Firstly, the author analyses the elements that affect growth of plant including sunlight, temperature and humidity on the basis of the development of balcony garden, current research domestic and abroad, investigating south-facing balcony garden in Changsha. The common plants which are suitable for south-facing balcony garden are introduced after analyzing of plants such as annual flowers, biennial flowers and perennial flowers, shrubs and vines. Except that, advices are given after investigation of affiliated facilities of balcony gardens.Secondly, the author respectively introduces11kinds of planting design patterns according to the direction of the plant growth, balcony greening layout and space for the placement of balcony greening layout, on the analysis of different types of balcony in Changsha, such as enclosed balcony, semi-enclosed balcony, open balcony and so on. Six design principles of balcony garden including:the principle of safety, choosing native species, harmonization, characteristic, seeing big things through small ones, local conditions and to less than more principle are provided. Thus a scientific guidance, rational design ideas and practical suggestions to the south-facing balcony garden of Changsha is worked out.Thirdly, the author ultimately selects three south-facing balcony garden buildings including Xinshikongkangnian Building, Dezhengyuanfangzhou Building and dormitory of Hunan Agricultural University that respectively represent the semi-enclosed balcony, corridor-style balcony and enclosed balcony through visiting and surveying the current situation of south-facing balcony garden in Changsha, designing three instances according to the design pattern, design principles and subsidiary facilities.There is no doubt that ecological deterioration caused by fast development of society can not be neglected. So it is right to change our ideas to treat balcony garden as a special urban view, increase the utilization of balcony garden,so as to enrich the amateur gardening life of citizens.
