Polar crane for nuclear power plant moves on the circular orbit that laying the upper of the reactor plant. It is one of the important hoisting equipments in nuclear power plant. It mostly provides hoisting service during the installation and maintenance heavy equipments within the reactor plant and supply the reactor refuel process.This paper takes the project of AP1000polar crane as an example which is designed by DHI· DCW Group Co.,Ltd. It has a special requirement which need experimentation for impaction about hook block under unload and the equipment no damage. The other crane is not allowed impaction in the crane industry, and domestic manufacturers have never done this experimentation. Due to the special nature of nuclear power equipment, the polar crane must have extremity security. It is very important to improve the anti-collision safety of hook block. Therefore, the nuclear power equipment can install very well.Aiming at researching the mechanical properties in the impaction process, the virtual prototyping model of main hoisting mechanism for AP1000polar crane is established based on ADAMS software, also the explicit dynamic finite element model is built by LS-DYNA software. The wire rope model of multiple magnification pulley block is built and simplified. The impaction about hook block is simulated by ADAMS software. The impact and the pressure on main hoist load girder were obtained. The load is added to finite element model which built by LS-DYNA software. Explicit dynamic finite element analysis is done. The stress and deformation of main hoist load gird were got when it is crashed and squeezed. The results indicated that:the machine is instability and has obvious quiver in crashed moment. Due to a heavy load, the impact effect is weakened. The pressure and deformation of main hoist load gird made by the strained wire rope are very large. So it needs protection equipment. The result gives some significant theory for the security design of polar crane for nuclear power plant.
